Animals are not for our beauty!

A lot of innocent animals are dying for our vanity.

Not only to be used as ingredients in our shampoo, sunscreen, lotion, anti-aging cream, mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick and concealer but also to be tested for human safety. Not only is testing on animals cruel and unnecessary, it's completely outdated. Scientists now have other ways to test out products and we also have alternative ingredients such as plant derivatives. Animals are not our human experiments.

If you’re living a vegan lifestyle or just want to avoid animal byproducts in your skincare and cosmetics, here is a list of common ingredients to avoid next time you’re out shopping!

Retinol. Also listed as Vitamin A.  Derived from animals like Cows, Chicken livers and Fish.  Used as an anti aging ingredient.  Instead look for Bakuchiol, extracted from the seeds of the babchi plant with the same results.

Hyaluronic Acid is commonly derived from a rooster's comb/crown.  Our Hyaluronic Acid found in our Flores Facial Mist is lab produced via fermented root vegetables such as sweet potatoes.

BeesWax is used as a humectant, which means that it attracts water to the skin to keep hydrated. Rice Bran wax or Candellia wax are the perfect alternative!

Cochineal Dye. Also known as Carmine.  Also known as crushed Cochineal Beetles.  When crushed they produce a vibrant red color which can be found in lipstick, blush and eyeshadow.

Squalene.  A substance extracted from Shark liver that can be found in anti-aging lotions, creams, eye make-up, lip balms and cleansers.  Plant based Squalane is now lab created and derived from Olives and Rice Bran.

Guanine. Also known as crushed fish scales.  Can be found in nail polish, lipsticks and eyeshadow for a shimmering effect.

Gelatin.  Also known as boiled fish skins, tendons, ligaments and bones.  Gelatin can be found in cream based foundations, concealer and eyeshadow as well as in lotions, cream, shampoos and sunscreen.

Tallow. Also known as Cow or Lamb fat.  It makes soap harder and longer lasting.  We’ve opted to use Sea Salts for the same results.

Ambergris.  A waxy oil that is derived from excretions of male sperm whales.  This substance is used to make the scent of a perfume last longer.   We have decided to exclusively scent our perfume using essential oils and plant carrier oils.  Feel free to apply as needed!

Estrogen. Also known as Estradiol.  Obtained by extracting urine from pregnant horses, used in creams and lotions. We choose to moisturize our skin with plant oils such as juicy cherries, passion fruit, apricot and jojoba oils as found in our Verano Facial Serum.

Next time you’re out shopping for skincare and make-up, take a look at the ingredients and find out if that’s something you want to be applying to your skin.
